Is one week in Honduras not enough? Olancho Aid is looking for short term volunteers to be camp counselors for their 2018 English Immersion Summer Camps for four to six weeks.
Olancho Aid Foundation is offering a bilingual summer camp program to help children between the ages five and twelve continue to learn and grow throughout their summer vacation. They are given the opportunity to practice English with native speakers and take part in various activities. Last year’s camp offered English-learning activities, art and music classes, martial arts classes, dance classes, water games, various sports activities, and a pool day. The activities offered at each camp are often based on what the volunteers can bring to the table, because it is their talents and creative ideas that make the camp a fun and unique experience for everyone. This is a great leadership opportunity for both Spanish speakers and non-Spanish speakers. Participating camp counselors grow in communication, problem solving, detail-orientation, and team-working skills. The foundation provides and maintains housing in a safe residential setting and transportation to and from their educational campuses. Unfortunately, they do not cover travel costs to or from Honduras. Their staff, however, assists volunteers with transportation to and from the airport in Tegucigalpa. All volunteers will be given benefits such as housing, Internet, water, electricity, and local transportation within Honduras that are covered by the foundation. A small, weekly stipend for each volunteer is also provided. Participating in Olancho Aid’s English Immersion Summer Camp Program gives volunteers the opportunity to fully explore the Latin American culture, work with fun and loving children on a daily basis, meet other volunteers from around the United States, and experience many of the exciting things Honduras has to offer.
If you are a high school senior or college-aged student interested in participating in next year's summer camp, please contact Marissa Lass at [email protected] for more information.
